Statement Regarding the Charges made against Reverend Jose Palimattom

Fr. Jose Palimattom ofm is a member of the Province of St. Thomas the Apostle, India. We are shocked and deeply saddened by the arrest and charges made on fr. Palimattom just within two months of his being there and whatever has happened is unfortunate and regrettable. The Diocese of Palm Beach is greatly concerned and is cooperating in the investigation.

To the best of our knowledge Fr. Palimattom is a good, God fearing priest and a gentleman. And nothing of this sort of behavior was manifested or reported to the authorities here in the Province. There was no occasion where the authorities have reprimanded fr. Jose Palimattom concerning this subject. The Certificate of aptitude was issued after having reviewed his personal file and we did not come across anything that would indicate that he would deal with minors or adults in an inappropriate manner. Further he was not involved in anything that would question his suitability to fulfill his responsibilities and duties of his priestly ministry. And basis of this we had granted him the permission to serve the Palm Beach Diocese.
