“Covid-19 has done what no one else was ever able to: SHUT DOWN’!” - This saying is going viral today. We realize during this time of pandemic that we are still at the mercy of God. There are efforts everywhere to find a remedy for this pandemic soon. We walk the path of this uncertainty and difficulty surrounding our life with total trust in God. Our God shall save us all!
Covid-19 has brought in a new talk in the town. It has brought a new thinking about how we have been living and going about in this world. What was always taken for granted like travel, meeting family and friends, going to church, to name a few, is all seen from a different perspective. There is a new normal today: stay inside, stay safe, stay healthy! Or what we call: just remain alive until the corona is avenged and then have all your plans! It is true that Covid-19 has managed to do what no one ever was able to! This virus has altered the course of human history for a while.
Everything is passing. Nothing is permanent. So also, this time of covid-19 pandemic.
Our friars in different places were quick to respond to this catastrophe by reaching out to those in need promptly. The friars have been regularly encouraged to look out for the needy and reach out. And that’s exactly what we have been able to do. Hence, we thank the friars for their readiness to go out and reach out to the needy. How? By offering food! That’s the basic need at this time. There are thousands of people who lived from hand to mouth, on a daily basis. With the deprivation of jobs, there are many have lost their livelihood! And Covid-19 has done this to millions. Thanks be to God - the government and private agencies are working day in and day out to reach out. This is humanity at its best when the worst is at our door. We can handle!
We want to thank many people who have come forward to help us to help others. There are many out there who want to reach out but have no idea, how? To them I can still say: the friars will do on your behalf! We are just a call away. The small presentation here will give you an idea of number of people that we have reached out and the growing need that will be a challenge to meet. But I know that the Lord will send his angels and messengers to meet these needs!
I want to salute all the “corona warriors” who are working out there and who are asking us to remain inside so that they can help better: the doctors, nurses, health workers of every kind, volunteers, leaders of our society and institutes, those who distribute food, those who give shelter and those who reach out silently and all the donors! Thanks to you all! This world is a better place because of people like you. We remember you and we pray for you.
Don’t give up. Be strong. Be courageous. The Lord goes before you!
