INSTITUTION OF THE MINISTRIES OF ACOLYTE AND LECTOR Br. Kamal Ekka, OFM

“Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.” (1 Peter 4:10). The ministries of Acolyte and Lector are sacred callings to serve God’s people by proclaiming His Word with faith and assisting at His altar with devotion and reverence so that Christ may be made present in both Word and Sacrament.

August 18 th marked another significant milestone in the life of the theology brothers. During the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, the Minister Provincial, Br. Xavier Durairaj, OFM, instituted our brothers into the Minor Orders of Acolyte and Lector. Brothers Anmol, Bhushan, Ajay, and Parsandeep were instituted into the Ministry of the Acolyte whereas, brothers Pratap, Allwin, Dhilip, Brian, Kamal, Ralbin, and Karthik were instituted into the Ministry of the Lector.

In his sermon, Br. Xavier Durairaj aptly highlighted that the ministries of acolyte and lector have a deep significance in our life and the mission of the Church. These are not merely functional roles but has that which identifies our life. The instituted ministries reflect a commitment and dedication to serve God and His Church faithfully. During the Eucharistic celebration, the choir was gracefully led by the first-year theology brothers, enriching the liturgy with their voices.

After the celebration, on behalf of all the brothers, Br. Ralbin expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Minister Provincial, the formators, the first-year theology brothers, and the entire community of St. Anthony’s Friary Bangalore for their unwavering guidance, support, and fraternal presence. The celebration concluded in a spirit of fraternity and joy, as the community exchanged greetings of peace and perseverance.
